Artist Biography
Shylo Verity was born in North Vancouver, Canada. When she was just weeks old, the family moved to the Yukon. After years of traveling and living in different communities throughout the Yukon and British Columbia, the family settled in Mount Currie BC. In 1977 the family took up residence in a summer cabin on Lillooet Lake. Only meant to be a vacation cottage with no electricity and no running water in the winters, life was simple yet often challenging. As a child, Shylo spent long hours hiking, canoeing, exploring, and sketching the environment around her. Stepfather, Dave Nickerson was instrumental in the young artists life, teaching her how to live off the land, read the world around her by looking and listening and how to live seamlessly within the environment. She was home schooled off and on throughout most of her elementary school years, as the nearest school was hours away by old dirt logging roads.
